The Rising Popularity of Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic surgery is an option for anyone that wants to improve on the looks they were born with and there are a variety of procedures that can be carried out. These range from teeth whitening to liposuction, breast augmentation and face lifts, to name just a few. While it may not be for everyone, a recent survey by The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) showed that more people then ever are now using cosmetic procedures as a way of getting the appearance they want. The results of the BAAPS survey revealed that more than fifty thousand cosmetic operations were carried out in the UK in 2013, with this being almost a 17% rise on the 2012 numbers. The growing trend was noted in both sexes, with just over forty five thousand operations carried out on women and around five thousand on men.
Almost every type of surgery that was monitored by the survey recorded a double digit rise in numbers. The most popular option for women was breast augmentation, with this recording a 13% rise in numbers. This was followed by eyelid surgery, face/neck lift, breast reduction and rhinoplasty (nose correction surgery). The sixth placed procedure was liposuction and this showed the biggest increase of any type of cosmetic surgery, with the 2013 numbers up 41% on 2012.
The most popular operation for men was rhinoplasty, with eyelid surgery, breast reduction, liposuction, and ear corrections coming in after this. As for women, it was liposuction that showed the biggest increase for men, with this recording a 28% rise.
The results of the survey clearly demonstrated that there is a growing demand for cosmetic surgery and that more men and women are now considering this as a way to enhance their looks. The same is also true of non-surgical procedures, with tooth whitening being one of the most popular options when it comes to this.
Most people want their teeth to look the best possible so that they can smile with confidence. Tooth whitening can help with this and is an effective way to lighten the colour without affecting the surface. There are a few options available for this, but one of the best to consider is laser whitening. In this method the patient wears a shield to protect their gums while a bleaching chemical is applied to the surface of the teeth. A light or laser is then shone on the chemical to activate it and this has the effect of speeding up the process. A quicker result is one of the main attractions of laser whitening and it can lighten the natural colour of teeth by around five or six shades.
There are plenty of reasons why teeth can become discoloured. It tends to happen naturally as people get older and can also be as a result of staining caused by food and drink. Anyone that is unhappy with the colour of their teeth will benefit from choosing laser whitening and in a relatively short period of time will be able to show the results with a whiter smile.
As the BAAPS survey demonstrated, the popularity of cosmetic procedures is on the rise. This is likely to continue in the future and is an option for anyone that wants to make the best of their looks.
